About My Role.

I am an experienced member of the Waitematā Local Board on Auckland Council. We are make decisions about community facilities in the City Centre and Inner Suburbs. We meet every Tuesday to discuss issues and opportunities in open workshops. Our decisions are made every third Tuesday afternoon at the Auckland Town Hall. You are welcome to come and speak to us at that time (though we can’t decide on any new issues brought to us there but they will, where appropriate, influence decision-making in the future). It is also possible to submit your thoughts online on a number of different issues (see below).

Most of our role is governance but we have some discretionary budget to develop youth spaces, or to improve our streetscapes. We also consider grant applications for community projects and sometimes lead larger projects that will have real community benefit. The Waitematā stretches from Western Springs to Newmarket in the East, from the city centre to Grafton in the South. Click here to have your say on issues here and across Auckland and find out more about the grants that are available:

We also consult with local business association, NGOs and community groups. I lead the infrastructure and environment and people portfolio and support Member Allan Matson on Planning and Resource Consents. There is lots going on! Click here to find out more:

I live in Grey Lynn with my husband and two kids. I have a law degree - though I ran away to publishing and worked as a fiction editor at Hodder & Stoughton. Quite recently, I completed a PhD in Auckland University on the role of play in the city. On the side, I make participatory theatre as a form of deliberative democracy. You can find me at the Grey Lynn Farmer's Market the last Sunday every month between 10 and 11am, on Facebook, LinkedIn, and email.
